Bannerghatta Eco-sensitive Zone:
Ecological sensitive zones or Ecological Fragile Zones are types of areas notified by the Ministry of Environment, Forests and climate change (MoEFCC), Government of India for Protected Areas, National Parks and Wildlife sanctuaries to protect.
Why we protect?
The main purpose is to create " shock absorbers" which in that area which prevents from Tsunami and more very helpful to our biodiversity. How these Eco-sensitive zones are demarked with legislative regulation procedure.
what legislation tells ?
The Environment Protection Act, 1986 doesn't mention about Eco - sensitive zones where according to wild life conservation strategy 2002 could go up to 10 kilometers around protected area.
The 33rd Eco-sensitive committee of MoEFCC is estimated about Bannerghatta national Park.
Bannerghatta National Park:
It is located at outskirts of Bangalore City in Bangalore Urban and Ramanagara Districts of
the Karnataka state situated in Deccan Plateau and is at the edge of the Eastern Ghats. After detailed deliberations which declared ESZ area of 168.9 sq.km. from the earlier 268.9 sq.km and reduced 100 sq.km.
A two edged sword:
- Would increase Mining.
- It could be threat to local villagers
- Further emergence of pollution.
- Conflict between The Man and animal.
What could have done?
Eco-Sensitive zones act as " shock absorbers", Considering importance of Eco-sensitive zone and ban on the mining activities through control would be wayforward.
